Scooter and Chewy Read - Chickens, Geese, and Ducks

Do you love fowl books? We love fowl books? *hee hee* Maybe it’s just me laughing. Feel free to kindly roll your eyes.

Peck, scratch, strut or waddle along with us as I introduce you to some of Scooter and Chewy’s favorite fowl books.

Fowl: a bird of any kind.

Chickens To The Rescue” by John Himmelman

This is an all around family favorite. We all love to read it or have it read. The story is fun to follow and read out loud. The illustrations are amazing and engaging. (Be sure to look for the sleeping chicken that has laid an egg on each page.) A certain Aunt of the kids happens to be a first grade teacher and hooks the kids up with all sorts of amazing books. This was one of them, plus a few more listed here. She even had this one signed by the author for the kids. (Thank you Aunt!) The book just makes you want to shout, “Chickens to the rescue!” I’ve got to get some chickens like that!

Gossie” and other Gossie and Friends books by Olivier Dunrea

Perfect for little ones and slightly older ones. I even love them. Simple text and simply beautiful illustrations. I almost bought another book to frame these adorable illustrations. There are quite a few books in the Gossie series. Be sure to check out “Boo Boo.” That one makes my kids laugh hysterically when Boo Boo burps. You’ll smile too! And don’t forget Peedie, Gertie, and Ollie. You’ll love goslings after these books!

Duck for President,” “Thump, Quack, Moo,” “Dooby Dooby Moo” and other wacky duck adventure books by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin

Silly and fun. What more can I say? That’s one wacky duck on Farmer Brown’s farm. We read all three that we own last night before bed. (Thank you again to a certain Aunt!) These books appeal to both adults and children. Certain humorous things are beyond my children, but right up my alley!

Duck at the Door,” “Duck and Cover,” “Sitting Duck,” and “Duck Soup” by Jackie Urbanovic

Delightful books about a duck named Max that lives with a woman and her menagerie of animals. Wonderful illustrations done by the author. We repeatedly get these at the library when they’re available. Scooter likes to know what each animal is saying. Quite funny to read and funny storylines!

Any other fowl books that kids would enjoy?  Plus, take a peek at the giveaway I'm hosting.  It's your last chance to enter.  Thanks!

  2. cute books! My daughter is so into ducks and chickens right now that this is the perfect time to check out these books! Thanks.

  3. Thanks so much for linking up! I like your fowl theme!

I love your pics too! Pajamas and bks def. go together.

I'm tweeting this to let people know!

  4. It was really fun to read about the chickens/geese/ducks/etc! I think that my kids would really get a kick out of Chickens to the Rescue - hopefully, the library has it!

Laura Numeroff has a book called The Chicken Sisters, if I recall correctly!

  5. We have Duck Soup by Jackie Urbanovic and my daughter loves it! It's about Max and Dakota and a couple of other stuffed animals! Simply delightful.

  6. I think ALL of these books will be adding themselves to our ever growing list of books to read... how fun! I think I may even do a whole Fowl Unit this summer! :)
