Muddy Buddies

A little muddy fun never hurt anyone. That I know of.

Here are a couple of recipes for some muddy fun:
Recipe 1: Chex Muddy Buddies (or puppy chow). Recipe and graphic instructions below.
Recipe 2: Dirt + Water + Kids = A Good Time!

Chex Muddy Buddies (click on recipe title for link)

Ingredients
9 cups Chex cereal (whatever flavor you want, I used corn)
1-cup semisweet chocolate chips
½ cup peanut butter
¼ butter or margarine
1-teaspoon vanilla
1-½ cups powdered sugar

Directions
1) Measure cereal into a large bowl and set aside.

2) In a microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter for 1 minute on high. Stir. Microwave about 30 seconds more and stir until smooth. Stir in vanilla.

3) Pour chocolate mixture over cereal, mixing until cereal is coated.

4) Using a resealable food bag, add powdered sugar and shake until cereal is coated.

5) Spread on wax paper to cool.

Notes: This is a great recipe to have the kids help on, if you don’t mind squished muddy buddies and chocolate fingers. I use the whole box of cereal and just add some more chocolate chips and peanut butter. (Because really, there isn’t much cereal left after you use 9 cups!) I also mix the chocolate-coated cereal with the powdered sugar in a large bowl with a cover. You may need to add some extra powdered sugar if using the whole box of cereal.

Disclaimer: I’m bringing this to a MOPS meeting for my sweet contribution and little fingers were not involved in the portion I’m bringing there. I think.

Disclaimer 2:  I'm not responsible if you end up eating the whole bowl of muddy buddies. Careful - these buddies are addicting.  Kinda like my real little muddy buddies (the kids).  I could just eat 'em up!

Any muddy fun to share?  Easy sweet treats?  Hoping you have a sweet day!

  1. I have been known to eat this for dinner sometimes! LOL!

Here's a secret: Skip the butter, you won't even know it! The chocolate/pb mixture coats the chex just as well. I say it's a healthy snack then :)
