Some Day

Some Day has arrived.  At least for the shoe bench.  I'm sure there's a lot of other Some Days for many other things.  Everything is a work in progress.  But the shoe bench is done......for now

Biker Boy and I designed and built this shoe bench together.  That's what we call "Date Night" around here.  Kids in bed, classic country on the radio, a V8 Fusion in hand, and handy building in the garage.  You can find my post about building the bench here.

My trusty little helper helped me finish up the bench during the day while Biker Boy was at work and Scooter was at school.  Chewy is becoming quite the little painter.  She doesn't like when I work on things during nap time.

Here's the before and after:

The only problem was finding something to put our shoes in.  I was hoping for 1 basket for each person.  That's 4 baskets for our family.  I tried way too many.  Below is a picture of 2 of the baskets I tried.  I've returned 5 so far.

Then we took a family outing to Lowe's.  That's what we do on weekends when we're not outside.  Actually, we went to Lowe's after a family bike ride to a park.  Biker Boy, my hero, found these galvanized bins.  Perfect!  Just like him.  They were the cheapest things we had found, big enough for his shoes, and easy to wipe clean!  No fear of putting wet and muddy shoes in them.  The handles make them easy for the kids to pull them in and out.

Lovely!  I'm liking it.  Liking It!

Now I can easily find my own shoes.  The kids can find their own shoes.

And we all can sit on the bench at the same time.  Amazing.  I never imagined that was possible.  There's even room for a few Hot Wheels and Disney Princesses to join us on the bench.  And they will.  They have.

Where are your shoes?

  1. I love, love, LOVE the bench. It looks so homey! My husband and I are "DIY-challenged" but I'll have to see what he thinks of this. I have been wanting a bench since we moved into our house...5 years ago. :)

  2. What a great looking solution! You two make a great team...thanks for posting this pic I've been googling images to find a solution to our current mudroom shoe predicament...now just gotta see if my hubby will help me build one!;)
