So, what has changed in 2 years? With my sofas that is?
Well, my sofas aren’t shrouded in blankets daily. I’ve finally learned that they clean well, so they go blanket less a lot. Except that the dog still likes to lay on a fleece blanket, so there is usually one on the couch for him to lay on.
The slipcovers do clean well. We’ve had grape juice, crayon, dirt, marker, sand, mud, food, and stains of unknown origins all on our slipcovers. I’m happy to report, that after washing, you’d never know it.
We have one slipcover that seems to have bleached to a super white in one spot and I don’t know why. I’m not sure if it was from a stain remover or from the sun. But unless I point it out, you’d never notice it. So it doesn’t bother me a whole lot.
Unless you want to do a lot of ironing, you’ve got to get use to the wrinkled look. Or maybe it’s that I air dry the slipcovers and I’m not really good about making sure there aren’t any wrinkles when I set them out to dry. I’m fine with wrinkles, it doesn’t bother me.
Being that these are our only sofas, they are used daily. After 2 years they are still quite comfortable. Maybe even more comfortable. They may not be as firm as when they were new, but the cushions haven’t broken down at all. They have that great time worn comfortable that fits you like a great pair of jeans. Except without the holes in the knees. The sofas aren’t so firm that they are uncomfortable and they aren’t so soft and squishy that you get lost in the cushions and can’t push yourself back out. The Ektorp sofas fall somewhere in between with a comforting firmness. I like them. They suit our family’s comfort level perfectly.
After 2 years, I do not at all regret our decision to get these sofas. I still love them as much or even more than the day they arrived.
I still wash them pretty much the same as I always have. I don’t always stick with the same brand of detergent or stain remover. I have not yet machine dried the slipcovers. I always dry them outside or on racks in the house if the weather isn’t the best.
If you didn’t know….these white sofas are occupied by myself, Biker Boy, an almost 7 year old boy, and a 4 year old girl. Plus a dog and a cat and the random visitors. We’re your typical family with your typical everyday messes. And yes, I once questioned why anyone on earth with kids and pets would get a white couch. Slipcovers and bleach are the answer people. Plus get an extra slipcover set. That’s how I keep the madness down…cause I can’t get laundry done in one day here. Plus I usually change the slipcovers after the kids have gone to bed. There would be way too much cushion jumping and throwing if I did it while they were awake.
Yes…we have the whole no food on the couch rule…for the kids. And yes, both Biker Boy and I have spilt food on the couch. There are no shoes on the couch, but being that we have an open home and the large sofa is approximately 6 feet from the door that goes to the garage, there have been shoes on the couch. There is suppose to be no jumping on the couch, but the dog totally ignores that one. The kids and jumping? They try it when they think we aren’t looking. So these couches are roughed up and used. They can handle it. Don’t be afraid of these sofas with pets or kids. Heck, if white scares you there are slipcovers available in other colors and patterns. Hooray for being able to easily and affordably change up the look of your furniture.
While I talk up the slipcovers and comfort of these couches, I can’t ignore the price. It’s da bomb! This is one of these low rent things that act high rent. Affordable and with a 10-year warranty!
So pretty much to summarize up 2 years of Ektorp sofa use….LOVE THEM STILL!
Feel free to add your comments to any of my posts and I’ll get on compiling them up for others. I’m not paid or perked by IKEA in any way. We bought the couches on our own and I do these reviews on my own so others can find out what I (and my lovely commenters) think of these sofas.
