Weekend Hike & Photos

This past weekend we went with some family friends up the mountain to do some photo taking.  A lot of the pretty leaves were already down and there was still snow on the ground from the snow last weekend.  But it was still pretty.  We were suppose to take turns taking family photos of each other, but since I like being behind the camera more than in front of it....I took the opportunity to take a bunch of photos of the other family.  A big thank you to them for being my first family photos.  I learned a lot.  As in...I still have a lot to learn.

They did take a few photos of us...when I let them.  Here's a couple.  The dog didn't sit still very well.

After the family photo session my family embarked on a small hike.  I snapped a few pictures of the kids when we took a snack break.

Never ask kids to smile because you will get cheesy smiles.  But that's okay.  I like cheese.  Especially when it's extra sharp.  And I need to work on getting my photos sharper.

Ask the kids to pucker up for a camera.  Darling.

Or to do a silly face.  How come the tongues always come out in silly face pictures?

I got a few portraits of my kiddos.  I love Scooter's blue eyes.  The color is from his daddy and the big roundness is from me.  The licking his lips and turning his face red?  Well, that's from somewhere or something.  Nervous habit.  There's a lot to learn in first grade.

And not all portraits have to be directly face on.  I love this one with Chewy's eyelashes.  I wish I had eyelashes like that.  And I love the sun on her hair.  I just snapped away as she was eating marshmallows.  (Those work good to bribe kids to take family photos!)

And goodness...what about my best photography subject of all?  Ranger?  I didn't up my shutter speed to capture him.  He was getting into trouble.  Some other mountain visiting people had built a snowman and adorned it with food for a face.  I found out a little too late that the snowman had cheese puffs for a mouth and nose.  Ranger found out.  The snowman lost its nose and mouth fairly quickly.  Thankfully he couldn't reach the chocolate cookie eyes.

But Ranger gave the snowman a kiss to make it feel better.  Or maybe he was just licking cheese puff residue.  I rather think that he was giving it a kiss.

What did you do this past weekend?

  1. Cute dog! What kind of camera do you use?

  2. Thanks! I got a Nikon D3100 from Costco. So far I love it! I'm still trying to figure out how to use it.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it. Comments will be moderated eventually. Computer use only occurs when kiddos are asleep or otherwise occupied. Thanks for your patience.
