Day 9: Exploring Outside Silverton

Seriously.  One day I will finish.  This vacation is taking forever!  Not that I'm complaining.  I just need to find more time in the day to do everything I would like to.

Okay...Day 9.  That found us packing our day full of adventure just outside of Silverton.  After a quick stop in town, we headed to our first activity.

The Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour.  You wear a rain coat, hard hat, and ride a mine train into the mine.

Fun, fun.  The tour guide once worked in the mine.

This guy could be in a movie.  He's the real deal.  Entertaining, informative, and really good with the kids.

Great tour, highly recommend it.  And you get to pan for gold and minerals at the end.

Next up we went to the Old Mill Tour, which is just down the road from the mine.  It's a good follow-up to the mine.  You get to see what happens with the materials that are taken from the mine.

Yep, I just thought this was funny.

And you can pan for gold again.

The afternoon found us driving a 4x4 road to the ghost town of Animas Forks.

Of course, it was raining when we got there.  We dodged hail as we rain ran into one of the old buildings to take cover.

It was pretty neat visiting the town, reading about the old buildings and the people that lived there.

I stuck my family in the old jail.  I'm going to keep them forever.

Oh, and I'll end this with a family shot.  Yep, sometimes the four of us are a photo.

I guess I didn't realize how long this vacation was.  No wonder Biker Boy doesn't have many vacation days left!  Hopefully I'll finish this soon!  Oh, bonus points if you can spot the dog.

Have you been around Silverton?  What did you do?
